Brad and Emily's Wedding

Emily and Brad's wedding was wonderful. The wedding was held in McLouth, a small town in Kansas. The flowers and details at the church were really stunning.

So we decided to have the boys pick up Emily, and the photos turned out so great, so what next...the girls lifting up the groom!! Well he was up for about 2 seconds, and then this is what we got...him falling and landing on the ground. I personally love the reactions of the girls as he is falling. These are just priceless!!

The limo pulled over during the trip from the wedding to the reception in Lawrence, to let the little guy use the restroom. Can you believe that when we turned around this is what we saw. We could not resist taking photos... If you look closely you can see the double rainbow.

I had to share the desserts... they were fabulous...YUMMY!!

Daniel and Callie Holiday Photos

Daniel and Callie decided that they wanted their Happy Holidays photos at the Plaza with the lights in the background...we got the lights and the cold weather. We took the photos last night and the temperature was well near or under 0!

It was a lot of fun and the hot chocolate after the pictures was OUTSTANDING!! Starbucks...Yummy!! Daniel had Pumpkin something, and I had Salty Caramel Hot Chololate (tasted like a melted Snickers)...ahhh, I think I need another now!

After this shoot I came home and got the opportunity to work with some of the new presets that I had downloaded earlier this week. I have loaded one at the top and a few of them below, I think that they are fun. I can not wait to keep playing with them to learn more.

Adam & Amanda's Wedding

Adam and Amanda got married at the Longiew Mansion in Lee's Summit, Missouri. It was a perfect day to have an outdoor ceremony.

I loved the flowers that Amanda chose, they were so beautiful. I also love the fact that her bridesmaids got to chose their favorite white flower to compliment. They all looked stunning together and really allowed for the creativity and individuality of the girls to show through. Adam and Amanda and all of their friends and family were amazing. It was such a pleasure to work with them on this amazing day. I look forward to working with them in the future.

Korena Senior Pictures

Korena is a bundle of energy and it was so much fun taking photos of her. We took them at Saint Mary University on the windiest day of the year. Korena had to use a can and a half of hairspray to keep her hair in place. :) There were many great places throughout the campus that we took photos. Of course the photos on the baseball field got attention from the local guard/police officer who came down to see what was going on... he let us finish after he realized that we were not vandalizing the field.

I had so many favorites and had a hard time narrowing them down...

These are a pair of shoes that Korena really LOVES! They are super cute and I loved to showcase them in a photo for her.

Jennifer and Phill's Engagement

Jennifer and Phill are getting married in May 2009 and wanted to get their engagement photos done before the weather got to bad! So the beginning of December it is...

We actually planned on taking pictures inside at Union Station, but due to the overabundance of little children and good weather outside, we changed locations. We took the photos at the Kauffman Gardens... and I loved them all. The beginning of December is not the best time for color and flowers, but the Kauffman Gardens always does a great job making things look as festive and in season as possible.

These two are so photogenic and wonderful to work with. I had a hard time picking my favorites, because I thought that they both look adorable in so many of them. I am really looking forward to working with them on their wedding.

Jennifer and Phill get those smiles ready, because the best is yet to come...

Limbach Family Photos

The Limbach family met me in the Kansas City area to have some family photos. They are realted to the Fay family, and this little girl was the ring flower girl in the Fay wedding. You can not really tell, but it was VERY cold outside and we are meeting again in the Spring.

Kim and Brian's Wedding

Kim and Brian got married in the small town next to mine, so the commute was short and sweet. It was such an amazing church with stain glass windows and beautiful wood work. It was great to see Trisha and Nick another couple I had photographed there celebrating with them.

Before the wedding we got the opportunity to go to the local high school so that they could take some pictures of them playing volleyball, a sport they both enjoy.

We then traveled to Atchison for the reception and stopped at a few places along the way to get some fun shots outside.

Stephanie and Ken's Wedding

Fay Family Portraits

A couple of years ago I photographed the Fay wedding. They recently called me to do family portraits...yeah!! This is one of the greatest and nicest couples that I have ever had the privilege of working with, so to continue to work with them is a complete blessing.

I normally have a hard time choosing my favorite photos, but this setting was really hard. I want to include them all.

How can you not just love that grin!! I did not pose him once, he loves having his pictures taken, and knows all the right looks and poses. I could post an entire blog of images of just him, because they are outstanding and he is so photogenic!!

These pictures are priceless.... I love the guys all looking down the aisle waiting for the two little girls to make their way down to them.

Wow...yes this is the largest spider and sack that I think I have ever seen. The kids were really excited about it, and I think that some of them wanted to take it home. Then of course what outdoor area would be complete without little snakes. All of the kids were wearing them as jewelry (rings). I took pictures of them, but that was as close as I got to them. Harmless or not, I was not interested.

Mike and Marie had an amazing wedding and really knew how to have fun! We were able to travel all over the Topeka area and took shots at the Lake, at the Capitol, and at the fountain outside of the Capital Plaza Hotel. There was a dog show at the Hotel this weekend, so everywhere you looked you saw dogs, and "pee poles". They were the funniest thing I have ever seen (red and white stripped poles). Here are some of the fun shots from the wedding.

Chris and Jessica's Wedding

Jess and Chris were such an amazing couple... and their wedding party was a truly fun group. They were willing to do anything and everything. This is also the wedding were my mother (in a attempt to free some room for me on a step) without looking stepped to her left and fell off of the 4 1/2 foot gazebo...not to worry she held the camera high and made sure that it received NO damage. The wedding party was shocked and all I could do was laugh. I mean have you ever seen your mother fall off of a ledge, hold a camera up for its safety, and do it all in SLOWW motion, so that I could soak it in- in shock. Well to make a long story short, she is graceful, and she was not injured. She was embarrassed since 16 pairs of eyes were on her at the time of the fall. Well back to the wedding pics- I had so many favorite images, but I have included a few with some variety. Later I was have a special posting on the images she took before, during and after the big fall!! :)

Medina Family Photos

A few weeks ago I had the honor in photographing the first child of past wedding clients. They are amazing people and have a georgeous baby. It was really cold outside, so we did all the photos inside. Baby Kaden was not asleep long, but he did a super job. Here are a few of my favorites!!

Note: I always tell parents that they do not have to worry if the little one does pee during a shoot since I have everything coated with plastic and everything is washable...well during our little time of "naked" photos, Dan picked up little Kaden and at that moment, you know it. Well, we tried really hard to keep "the spot" covered during the rest of the photos. Dan you are such a trooper!! Thank you Medina Family for a great photo shoot.

Free Time!! What to do??

So what do you do when you own a business and you are all caught up...? Not to mention the weather is keeping you inside since it seems to be snowing everyday. Well I have found the perfect solution to this horrible loneliness!! Once owning a wii game system, you can go crazy... I have become a rock star! I have been working on my guitar playing and my singing. Simon thinks that I could be the next American Idol, and I am also called a rock star playing the guitar on stage. I guess I am overflowing with talent...and no one knew!! I can not wait until this weekend when I get to see my mother, step father, brother, and grandparents take on the guitar and microphone...oh yes, it should be interesting.

We love taking detail pictures at weddings. I have included some of our detail pictures from the wedding of Courtney and David. These images are close up of the hands of many people at the wedding. The picture on the top left is the three generations looking at the cross and hanky that she is going to carry. On the right is Courtney and her father getting ready to walk down the aisle...I love that you can see the cross that she is carrying in her hand. The final image on the bottom left is one of Courtney opening her gift from her future husband David.

Valentines Day!

Well I always get an amazing flower from my brother Chad for Valentines Day. He started sending them to me my first year of college, when he was only a freshman in high school. I think that it is awesome for him to remember me on that day...because I know that he does not send anyone else one...not even mom and grandma...sorry ladies. Well this year was no different than that last one. I recieved a beautiful red rose from him again...no note this year...must think that I am use to the same cards "Love ya Sis". Well I decided that I would take a picture of this rose to share with you. I am so use to taking photographs of flowers at weddings, but rarely photograph my own...how silly of me. Not to mention that this smelled a lot better than my gift the night before. I did play around a little in photoshop with this image. Take the time to snap a few shots of the things that you love...

Bad Smells!!

Well I got home last night from a great dinner...the disaster began. Sage my beautiful baby is very protective of us and our houses. She does not like anything getting close to or around the house without her personal okay. Well she had a great moment in her life last night. My grandpa brought Sage back to my house around 11:30. When she got out of the truck she noticed a figure along the house, and took off to "get" it...well it was a skunk...yes a skunk!! Well it took no time in spraying its beautiful smell right into Sages mouth...thank goodness she did not get it all over her. Well Sage just about died spitting and shaking her head to try to get rid of the taste....if we know how bad it smells, imagine what it takes like...ahhhh! She thought that she was in big trouble, and hid under the table. I asked grandma to come and help me take care of the smell, I was not sure what she could do, but it smelled so bad I was hoping for anything. Well you are not going to believe it but she decided to rub deodorant onto her body/fur...it was so funny that I had to take a picture, I could not believe it! Well things are smelling a little better today. I am hoping that Sage learned a very valuable lesson last night. The top picture is Sage having the deodorant applied..haha, and the second is her just looking miserable, I am sure she was...she kept licking her lips...I am positive it tasted horrible!!

The Elms Resort and Spa

This image was taken at the Elms Resort and Spa in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. This was the wedding of Christina and Ron. They had a beautiful location and we got the opportunity to take advantage of those areas in many images. The image on the left was of the wedding party on the back steps of the resort. This area was directly outside of the reception hall. The image on the right was taken directly after the wedding. All of the guests surrounded the bride and groom near the pool and cheered while they kissed.

Never To Old!!

Well I recently got the wii game system..thanks to my mother. She is one determined woman, and she just happened to check with the game stop the day they were coming in...and got one for me. Thank you mom! Well I love playing wii...and of course I am already sore. I also purchased the Mario and Sonic Olympic game, and the wii play games. You know you can never be to old to play wii!! Grandma and Grandpa took their go at it. I think that is will be a long time before grandma plays again (she was in an accident a little while back and has fractured ribs), since she got a little sore after running the 100m dash. Well they both wanted to see their results at the 100m dash, since Chad, Jessica, and I were getting first place over and over again. Well they got 8th place everytime, but I will admit that they both were getting close to being 7th... The time that grandpa ran against Jessica (above)...you could not even see him on the screen since she was so far ahead of him. I took these photos with my little wait...wait...wait...snap camera, so they are a little blurry. They really enjoyed playing it, and I think that they will be back later just to try to bet me!

The Munchkins!

I took these photos awhile back on the moving trip to Orlando, Florida. It was a very long trip (20 hours), but I got to spend time with my sister and the munchkins, so it was worth it. I can not imagine what the ride in the uhaul was like...but I guess we were lucky enough not to have to find out. We got the opportunity to stop many times so that the kids could get out and run, and we could stretch our legs. One of our stops was McDonalds. The kids had so much fun playing the in the play area. I have included images of each of the children at McDonalds. Even though Milo could not play he looked like he was having a great time. We even stopped at the Florida state line so that they could take a picture. Milo was sound asleep so we did not wake him. Both days we arrived at exactly the same time as the uhaul and they did not stop at all, unless they needed gas. I feel like we stopped more often, and got a chance to relax. I can not wait to go back to Florida to see the kids! I miss you all! I can truly say that I have the best family in the world.

Last night we took photos at the local high school royalty dance. So we decided to take the opportunity to get a few shots of the three of us, since the background was very nice. Of course as photographers we were very picky on placement and the overall look of the image, so it took us many times to get ones that we really liked. Enjoy the new photos!

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!! Go KU!

We have had many weddings that ended up on a journey to the Kansas University campus. It is always fun to allow someone the opportunity to show a passion or interest in the wedding portraits. We have gone all over the campus. One wedding we even ended up getting permission to take photographs on the KU basketball court...talk about amazing. This first image was taken at Strong Hall during Ken and Stephanie's wedding. The guys wanted a image in front of the Jayhawk, they also took pictures in front of Allen Fieldhouse, at the fountain, and they were the group that took pictures on the basketball court. The second image is at Joe and Tina's wedding. The weather was very warm that day, so we decided that it would be neat to jump in. I feel that this made for a great and unique image. I am sure that we will have many more adventures on the campus, I am just waiting to see what they hold. This year we are going to be doing weddings in Manhattan, so I may have images of KSU campus later.

My Babies!

Well if anyone knows me, they know that I love my dogs, and I love taking pictures of them. I guess I am partial to them, but I think that they are the best dogs in the world. We currently have 5 dogs- 2 indoor and 3 outdoor. Sage is my chocolate lab, and she is beyond spoiled and Pepper is my brothers black lab. They are a few years different in age, but you would think that they came from the same womb. Maggie is the bassett hound who is a big licker, Sadie is a lab chow mix, and Zoey is a Chihuahua...yes you are thinking why does the Chihuahua live outdoors...well the story is long and complicated, but Maggie will not go into the dog house without her, so they just snuggle together every night. If I could have my way I would have hundreds of dogs, and have thought about having an animal rescue shelter...maybe someday. I have included some images of my dogs here that were taken during a recent snow day. The top left photo is of my brother and I with the four dogs...it was a little to cold for Zoey. The individual photos are of Pepper...she loves having her picture taken, and loves the snow more than anything.... The picture of the three dogs are Sage, Pepper and Maggie..clockwise from top left.

Jamie's Summer Wedding

These are images of Jamie during her summer wedding at her parents house. The backgroud is the overlook that is located outside of her parents front door... talk about lucky. We took many shots at this location, and all where amazing. Not only was the location amazing, but her flowers were also, making the second image just beautiful. She informed me at the recent bridal fair that she had gotten the flowers from the HyVee in Lawrence, which I spoke about recently in a blog. The second image had minor retouching. The day was a little windy, so there was a hair that was removed from her cheek. The last images were their departure from the wedding ceremony. They were altered in photoshop using color touch on the truck...

Recent Weddings

This image was taken during the wedding of Alice and Michael. I love doing images such as this that really show off the rings. I generally do the hands with rings on the flowers, but this is a good way to show off the flowers and the rings. These flowers were amazing, and of course the rings were equally amazing.

Jennifer and Brian were an amazing couple....they are so much in love, and it was very obvious. I wanted to make this image special. They were in the middle of there first dance, and finally the night had slowed down. This was a VERY EVENTFUL wedding...and those that were there know what I am talking about. I will not get into it, but as a photographer we see a lot of things, and this just added to our list. Best of Luck to you both....may your song never end!

Veil Pictures

This is a recent page of an album that I made in LumiPix. I really love doing this set of images, but I do not do it very often. This couple was very much in love, and I knew that they would enjoy these. The way that this was completed was by placing the veil over the couple, and then both my mother and I circled them to get different angles and views of the couple.

Cinncinnatti Trip

Last September my mother and I went to Cinncinnatti, Ohio to attend the David Ziser Master Class. I feel that we learned "A LOT" especially from the other people who were there, since we spent so much time with them. We must have been at least somewhat enjoyable, because even though my mother was a horrible driver, we always had passengers. Maybe they were there to help her out. She did run over a curb, go down a one way street, miss turns frequently, but she always made it to the destination, eventually. Well to make a long week, short, we had a great time and got to photograph at some of the most amazing places, with a great couple. They were fun to be around and had great personalities. The other members of the class were awesome, and I wish that they lived closer. I will include a few of those images. The class image was taken by David Ziser...the photograph does not include all of the class members, but a large majority of them. Thank you David for a great experience!

Topeka Bridal Show

Recently I had a bridal show in Topeka, Kansas at the Kansas ExpoCentre. It was good, but we have so many dates that are already booked, it was hard to meet brides that were looking for a day that we were still available. We of course were located next to the most amazing cakes in the world...created by pastry chef- Jesus Magana of the Prairie Band Casino and Resort. My favorite of the two cakes was the white cake with roasted apples and bulverian cream center. Talk about amazing. I can not wait to order one of these cakes for myself in the future. We met many amazing vendor while we were there, including the Lawrence HyVee employees. They asked me if I would photograph their display including some of their cakes, which were amazing. I have included a few of the images that I took of their cakes.

Photo Restoration

Well I guess this (photoshop) is not something that I am new to, but when it comes to photo restoration, I am new. I really enjoyed working on the ones that I have done so far. I guess when it comes to family photos it makes the final outcomes more rewarding. Most of the images that I have restored are of my great grandparents and their kids (including my grandmother) and their family. I have incuded a image of my great grandfather Adolf (on left) and his family. I am not sure of who they are, but I am sure that my grandmother can tell us. I believe that this was taken while my great grandfather still lived in Germany. The three guys are enjoying some great watermelon. I just did the basic such as removing the creases and some of the discoloration. Looking back it is great to have these memories in photographs. It is hard to imagine the camera equipment that was used at this time. I will share more restorations images at a later date.

Photoshop Alterations

I have been working on some current images in adobe photoshop...I have included one of my favorites in this blog. This image was taken outside of the Uptown Theater in Kansas City, Kansas. It began snowing earlier that day and continued throughout the day. We decided to take advantage of this, and shoot a few images of the bride and groom outside. What I love most about this picture is the single red rose that had fallen out of her bouquet. I decided that I liked the placement and let it remain there.

When it came to photoshop...

* I first removed the sidewalk magazine holders and a trashcan that were seen in the image.

* I used a color touch technique on the flowers to make them remain in color, while turning the rest into black and white.

* I removed the white plastic flower holder, by extending her coat sleeve to cover it, as well as, adding a few more leaves and baby breathe near the sleeve to make it look more natural.

* I also used a paint with light technique that allowed me to add light where I needed, and darken other areas that were not of importance.

* Finally, I used a blurring motion on the falling snow which I believe added some extra interest to the background.

I am new to this entire blogging things, but feel that I have learned a lot from reading my sister Emily's blog... daily.
